After some prodding in the comments, I've decided to include what my personal intent for the piece was (but you're free to make your own too

It's very much an extension of my own feelings about life. I imagine this average, could-be-anyone suicidal man who has an innocent wish that if he one day jumps he'll find he can actually fly (if he just believes), and that discovery alone will give him the joy to keep living.
At the same time though, I think the fact that the angels are already waiting for him doesn't bode very well to his fate--but you never know until you try, right?
